Mitsubishi president Osamu Masuko has confirmed to Autocar that the next Evo will use a hybrid powertrain and will arrive in the next three years.
"We will start work on the project next year, and it will be ready within three," Masuko told Autocar. "I have set the goal of developing a sporting car featuring electric power."
The executive did not reveal the full technical details, but Autocar says that the vehicle can use a diesel-electric hybrid powertrain. The Evo hybrid will accelerate from 0-100 km/h under five seconds, while keeping CO2 emissions under the 200 g/km.
The 2014 Mitsubishi Evo Hybrid will also get an updated version of the S-AWC all-wheel-drive system.
