According to a recent report, Nissan is developing on a new sports car that will compete with the Mazda MX-5.

Auto Express says the model will ride on a new platform - the plan had been for it to sit on the 370Z platform. Furthermore, Nissan will get help in tuning the chassis from Lotus to fine tune the car's handling.

Engine options remain a mystery, but a tuned version of the Leaf’s drivetrain and a hybrid setup are under consideration.

The model is slated to be launched in 2013, with a price tag of around £20,000.
