According to the latest figures, new car sales rose for the first time since summer 2010 in August this year. In what is undoubtedly positive news, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) confirmed that new car sales rose by 7.3% in August when compared to the same period in the previous year.
Once again, the Ford Fiesta was the highest selling car in August with a total of 3,213 registrations. The Ford Fiesta remains the top selling car of 2011, with approximately 61,551 cars sold to date. For any driver considering purchasing a new Ford, the full Ford range is available from Evans Halshaw dealers.
Despite the good news of the small sales hike, the SMMT were quick to highlight that caution should be shown when predicting whether the new car market would continue to improve. During the 13 months leading up to August new car sales figures had consistently declined.
So what accounted for the sudden upward surge in the August new car sales figures? A major cause was the sudden jump by 17.6% witnessed in the Supermini segment, which altogether accounted for a significant 37.3% of the sales that made August such a success.
But will the rise in new car sales continue? Customer confidence is quite low at the moment and the seismic repercussions of the recession continue to shake the car market to its core.
Car manufacturers are doing everything they can to entice new buyers. Improvements in fuel efficiency not only save driver’s money, but also help to reduce the carbon footprint and save the environment.
Likewise, there has been a great range of competitive finance packages put together to cajole people to make the investment and purchase a new car at what is a difficult financial time for many across the UK.
Ford really has been raising the bar in terms of fuel efficiency, performance and value for money. It seems they are being rewarded for their conscience driven car production, with the Ford Fiesta at the very top of the highest sellers and the Ford Focus coming in third place behind the Vauxhall Corsa.
The new car market still faces an uphill struggle and great challenges, yet the recent upward shift in sales should be welcomed as a positive move in the right direction. Car manufacturers and dealers will be hoping August wasn’t a solitary spike.
