2011 SEMA: 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid Pacecar


Kia has unveiled a specially modified Optima Hybrid at the SEMA Show, called the Optima Hybrid Pacecar.

Built by GoGoGear, the Optima Hybrid Pacecar features a free-flow air intake system, coil-over suspension kit to lower the ride height, front splitter and rear wing, lightweight wheels and performance tires. There's also a striking combo of black and lime-green, a racing exhaust made by Magnaflow, a coil-over suspension kit to lower the ride height, a 2,400-watt audio and video system with dual seven-inch monitors in the front-seat headrests.

Kia says that the Optima Hybrid Safety Car will officially appearance the track at the USTCC in March 2012.

2011 SEMA: Chevrolet Camaro COPO concept


At the 2011 SEMA Show, Chevrolet has introduced the Camaro COPO concept, a concept reflecting the past.

Built to comply with the NHRA Stock Eliminator drag racing, the model has a cowl-induction hood, a chromoly roll cage, a pair of bucket seats, a race-spec interior and Auto Meter gauges. There's also a coilover front suspension, a solid rear axle and unique wheels with rear radial racing slicks.

Engine options include: a supercharged 5.3-liter 327 lump or a naturally-aspirated 7.0-liter 427. The engine can be paired to a 2-speed automatic, a 3-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual.

“The COPO Camaro is proof of what a Chevrolet Stock Eliminator entry cold look like”, said GM vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports Jim Campbell. Moreover, he revealed that it will make it past the concept stage, since “Chevrolet intends to homologate the Camaro for sportsman drag racing.”

2011 SEMA: Suzuki Grand Vitara Marine Concept


In an effort to to promote the company's automotive and marine divisions, Suzuki has teamed up with students at the Ohio Technical College (OTC) to create the Grand Vitara Marine concept for SEMA.

The concept has a nautical-inspired design with an outboard motor strapped to its rear end, a Bull front bumper, a lifted suspension, a boat-style radar arch and serious off-road tires.

Suzuki's American director of public relations and social media, Jeff Holland said "The Grand Vitara Marine concept exemplifies the unique combination of passion and innovation, and we couldn't be more pleased with the finished product."

Hyundai Veloster Turbo will debut in Detroit next year


According to John Krafcik, the Hyundai CEO, the company is planning to introduce the Veloster Turbo at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

Expected to hit the local dealerships later in 2012, the model will be powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine (similar to the Optima SX Turbo) with 208 hp at 6,000 rpm and 195 lb-ft of torque between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm.

Prices for the Hyundai Veloster Turbo start at $17,300.

Subaru BRZ STI concept revealed


Subaru has released a first official image of the BRZ STI concept ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

As you see, the concept has an aggressive front fascia with a prominent grille, carbon fiber roof and LED daytime running lights. There's also bulging fenders, boot lid, a massive rear wing, the tail lamp, a four-tailpipe exhaust system and STI alloy wheels.

In a short statement, the company stated the BRZ will have a low center of gravity and be a "pure handling delight" driving experience.

Subaru did not release any further information on its concept, but recent reports have indicated the Toyota FT-86 / Scion FR-S will weigh 1,210 kg and have a 2.0-liter Boxer engine with 200 hp and 205 Nm of torque.
